The countdown is on: 2028 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad and commonly known as Los Angeles 2028 or LA 28 return to Los Angeles and Long Beach in 2028!
Olympic Games Dates: July 14 – July 30, 2028 Events: 351 in 36 sports
Paralympic Games Dates: August 15 – August 27, 2028
The Olympic and Paralympic Games are set to make a historic return to Los Angeles in the summer of 2028, promising an unforgettable, county-wide celebration of sport and culture. The excitement is already building, and while official tickets aren’t yet available, now is the time for prospective attendees to start planning and preparing to secure their spot at this global event.
From July 14–30, 2028, Los Angeles will be transformed into the world’s sporting epicenter. While the Games will center on world-class venues in Los Angeles, competitions will be spread across the region in what organizers are calling a “unique, county-wide celebration”.
A dual-venue opening ceremony
For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will be a dual-venue spectacular. The festivities will be split between SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The Coliseum is already set to make history as the first venue to host three Olympic Games. Both venues will also be used for the closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Long Beach is set to shine as a major hub for the 2028 Olympics
With just under three years to go until the start of the 2028 Summer Games, Long Beach is gearing up to play a starring role. The city’s iconic waterfront and world-class facilities will host 11 Olympic and seven Paralympic events, showcasing the coastal city to a global audience.
This will mark a return to Olympic glory for Long Beach, which previously hosted events for the 1932 and 1984 Games. This time around, the city is doubling down, with more events confirmed than initially proposed in the LA28 bid.
A waterfront sports park
The Long Beach waterfront will be transformed into a dynamic “Sports Park,” with multiple venues providing a stunning coastal backdrop for a variety of competitions.
- Marine Stadium: A historic Olympic venue, Marine Stadium hosted rowing events in both 1932 and 1984. For 2028, it will once again host Rowing and Canoe-Sprint competitions.
- Alamitos Beach and Belmont Shore: The city’s scenic shoreline will be a hub for water sports. Beach Volleyball will draw large crowds at Alamitos Beach, while the waters off Belmont Shore will host the Sailing competitions. The waterfront will also be the setting for Coastal Rowing, a new discipline, and Marathon Swimming. The Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier will serve as an operational and viewing hub for the open-water events.
- Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center: The area around the Convention Center will be buzzing with activity. A temporary, outdoor aquatics center will be built on the parking lot to house Artistic Swimming and Water Polo. Inside the Convention Center, fans can watch Handball in the Long Beach Arena and the precision sport of Target Shooting in a temporary indoor range. A temporary outdoor climbing wall will be erected for Sport Climbing, offering athletes and fans a dramatic Pacific Ocean view.
Paralympic events to feature Long Beach
Following the Olympic Games, Long Beach will continue as a major host for the Paralympics, with seven events scheduled across its venues.
- Para Swimming and Shooting Para Sport will take place in the Convention Center lot and a temporary indoor range, respectively.
- Sitting Volleyball will be held in the Long Beach Arena, while Blind Football will take over the beach volleyball arena at Alamitos Beach.
- Para Rowing and Para Canoe-Sprint will be staged in the Marine Stadium.
Investing in a legacy
Beyond the competition, Long Beach is using the 2028 Games as a catalyst for long-term improvement. The city has initiated “Elevate 28,” a multi-million dollar plan for infrastructure upgrades that will benefit residents and visitors for years to come. This includes improvements to parks, roads, and water quality.
With its rich Olympic history and strategic investments, Long Beach is poised to create an unforgettable experience for athletes and spectators and cement its reputation as a world-class sporting destination. The best part is that you can be part of the experience right from Marina Pacifica. If you want to be closer to the action, you can always get tickets.
What you need to know about getting tickets:
Tickets are not yet on sale
The most important thing to know is that tickets for the LA28 Games are not yet available to the public. Don’t be fooled by unofficial sellers claiming to have tickets. I have already seen some emails and social media ads for tickets; not real.
Sign up for updates from LA28
To be among the first to know when tickets will be released, you should sign up for newsletter updates on the official LA28 website: la28.org. The organizing committee will release information about the ticketing process, sale dates, venues, and more directly to those who sign up.
The ticketing process
Based on previous Olympic Games and comments from organizers, the initial ticketing process will likely involve a lottery or pre-sale registration period. For the Paris 2024 Games, the first ticket sales occurred roughly 18 months in advance. This suggests that the first phase of LA28 ticket offerings could begin sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
Official ticketing partners
LA28 has partnered with the ticketing companies AXS and CTS EVENTIM for ticket sales, which will be accessible through the official LA28 website.
Official hospitality packages
For a more exclusive experience, official hospitality packages are already being promoted through the LA28 website. These packages, managed by the company On Location, include premium seating, exclusive VIP lounge access, guaranteed hotel accommodations, and transportation.
Resale tickets
Like other major events, unauthorized resale of tickets outside official channels is not permitted. In previous Games, an official resale platform was created, and a similar system is likely for LA28.
